[ Exactly what she was thinking. November did do a good impression of a drowned puppy ]

FROM: april@cdc.org

Once or twice by my recollection.

FROM: april@cdc.org

Seen anything of interest?

Just getting to know the local vegetation. There's a surprising lack of taste testers, however.

[ it's as though no one trusts April's cooking ]

FROM: april@cdc.org

We also had a kid wander through camp.

[ you know, as a heads up in case the natives wipe out the camp before November gets back ]

Only if you believe we've got a few of the locals on our team.

FROM: april@cdc.org

Although recruiting one or two could be of benefit.

And maybe they're just dying to get off the planet before it blows.

FROM: april@cdc.org

But I suppose the CDC would have already looked into that, wouldn't they?

[ not that it matters much to her if they had or had not. She was just there for the job. ]

Too true, although the cdc does seem to enjoy the sledgehammer approach to some of their problems.

FROM: april@cdc.org

Even so, take care coming back to camp. WIth the Neraki hanging out, I'd hate it if you were surprised.

[ you know, because that means April has to come save his ass again. Or vice versa. ]

It is rather fun to topple a government from within, isn't it?

[ Amber's quite good at that, actually. Perhaps they should sign up for lessons. ]

FROM: april@cdc.org

And do you really wish me to start listing those off? It could be a good bonding moment for the crew.

[ now, just where were those rover mates of hers again... ]

[ as if she minds reliving the old days. There were good lessons to be learned back then. ]

FROM: april@cdc.org

You make it sound like that's not your idea of fun.

FROM: april@cdc.org

Although there's little point in waxing nostalgic. It certainly won't get our current job done.

[ such a pity though. There was something to be said for watching a well laid plan coming to fruition all at once. ]

[ and the most gruesome way to kill a man with his ice powers. Teacicles were a rather nice touch. Very British. ]

FROM: april@cdc.org

But it does help pass the time in the short term. Humans usually are more inclined to trust a man who opens up a little rather than one who doesn't.

[ of course, the issue was always in wondering how much of what was shared was actually true. The end did justify the means (usually). ]

An occupational hazard.

And we can still rely on our actions to speak louder then words.

[ which of course doesn't improve their chances of gaining anyone's trust. in fact, it likely decreases them. Ah well. There's no sense pining for what she can't have. ]

It's as apt a description as any.

FROM: april@cdc.org

Ah well. Comfort was never my strong suit. You were always a better hand at that then I.

[ primarily because November was always the spokesman while April kept an eye on thing. Then again, her idea of comfort was drowning everyone in a sea of good food and booze. ]

Are they? Best be careful then. They could just be buttering you up.

[ probably in both the figurative and literal sense too. One never knows with aliens. ]
